Awoke to 12 degrees celsius (with a potential high of 22)
Poached eggs for breakfast with Hannah and guests Anne and Dale from Alberta.
Gros Morne visitor center. Weather still says cloudy and rainy with sun. We saw lots of fog today.
Made the decision to do the James Callaghan Trail
9:25 am - 10:30 am Hike to Base Camp (4 km)
10:30 am - 12:00 noon Trek up to the summit (a steep boulder gully, 500 m in elevation)
12:00 noon - 12:10 pm Snack and rehydration. Foggy at the top so no view :^( Sadness
12:10 pm - 2:30 pm A "gentler" trail back to the Base Camp. Fog lifted so we could see some nice views on the way down. We saw a female moose from a distance (number 4 for Tom) and then saw an up-close-and-personal male moose. (Number 5 for Tom) Amazing ! Not as big as the one we saw yesterday. Lots of pictures!
2:30 pm - 3:55 pm Returned to the car in the parking lot !
Had numerous bottles of water and drove to Deer Lake in search of a room.
Stopped at the Deer Lake Motel
They were full but she gave us a list of B&B's in the area.
We secured a place at Judy's B&B.
A little apprehensive that we found this place so easily BUT it was a great place. New, clean and crown mouldings in every room (her husband Neil is a carpenter)
An early night after our big hike that day. Asleep at 10:00 pm to the chorus of barking dogs for the first fifteen minutes.
Good night !
